Regional versus National Accreditation

Over a number of years now, a debate has persisted regarding the perceived value of Regional versus National accreditation. While a case could be made for differences between the two types, such as the location of institutions, academic focus, and governance, little difference existed in quality.

This year, the U.S. Department of Education moved to uphold the equivalent quality of all institutions which they accredit by eliminating the arbitrary and inconsistent geographic designations. Ultimately, this change is one more indicator that the courses and degrees completed by students at our institutional-accredited university have the same value as those completed at all other institutional-accredited academic institutions, regional or otherwise.

Below is an excerpt from the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), with a link to the letter from the USDE:

“On February 26, 2020, USDE Principal Deputy Under Secretary Diane Auer Jones sent a letter to state higher education leaders concerning the final accreditation and state authorization for distance education regulations. The letter highlighted that the new regulations have removed geography from an accrediting agency’s scope, meaning USDE will no longer distinguish between regional and national accrediting agencies but will classify accrediting organizations as institutional and programmatic accreditors.”

The Board of Regents of the State of Louisiana, U.S.A. has judged NationsUniversity compliant with Louisiana law in the matter of granting degrees in religious studies.

Licensure and Certification Disclosure

Degrees and certificates awarded by NationsUniversity may or may not qualify recipients for licensure or certification in the United States or its territories. Students wishing to apply for licensure or certification in any state are responsible for contacting the appropriate federal or state agency to determine if the accredited academic award from NationsUniversity meets the educational requirements.

NationsUniversity provides religious courses to individuals around the globe. Students learn through internet-based courses and interact with their personal student advisor, and faculty via email, telephone, and the Moodle instructional technology platform.

The University provides instruction asynchronously, has rolling admissions, and does not operate within any semester, quarter, or other term systems. However, enrollment within any given course expires after a twelve-month period from enrollment if the course is incomplete. The University does not have a physical campus and operates as a distance education University.

NC-SARA

NationsUniversity is an approved member of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). The State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement is a voluntary agreement among its 49 member states and U.S. territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of postsecondary distance-education courses and programs. It is intended to make it easier for students to take online courses offered by postsecondary institutions based in another state. (California elected not to participate in NC-SARA; however, NationsUniversity is allowed to offer courses and programs in California through specific state exemptions.) NC-SARA

Will NationsUniversity credits transfer to an accredited university? The decision is up to the receiving university. A good academic record is more likely to receive a favorable review than a poor one. Students wanting to transfer NU credits to another university should contact the university to which they are applying.

In addition to state authorization through NC-SARA, Arkansas requires additional disclosures related to NationsUniversity’s religious exemptions.

State Licensure

Institutions offering distance education at the post-secondary level are required to conform to state regulations pertaining to degree programs. Each of the fifty states regulates the institutions doing business within its borders. Regulations differ widely and are subject to change.

NationsUniversity® is authorized by the Board of Regents of the State of Louisiana, U.S.A. to grant degrees in religious studies.

NationsUniversty® is authorized by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to operate educational and administrative facilities in the State of Tennessee.

Consumer Information Disclosure

The institution was approved by the Board of Regents of Louisiana on June 18, 1996, to grant degrees in religious studies. The name “NationsUniversity” was registered with the U. S. government on July 7, 1998, and subsequently renewed through July 7, 2018. The institution was granted tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c) 3 organization on February 3, 1998. NationsUniversity is incorporated in the State of Louisiana as a non-profit corporation. The University was first accredited in July 2015 through DEAC.

NationsUniversity students learn biblical principles from a Christian perspective, with emphasis on real-life application.

NationsUniversity students enroll for many reasons including interest in Christianity, personal spiritual growth, increased biblical knowledge, and preparation for teaching and ministry.

NationsUniversity students represent students from over 120 twenty countries around the world ages 18-80 of which over 20% are females. The NationsUniversity serves 400 incarcerated students in the United States.

The university offers three degrees the Bachelor of Religious Studies, Master of Theological Studies, and Master of Divinity.
