Reflection – My God Is Love

This week’s reflection, My God Is Love is part 6 of a series by Raymond Key on My God and I. The guest author, Mr. Key, who at age 100+ has a lot of wisdom to share.

The little legs ran swiftly across the floor. Little arms reached up. She and her mother had gone to grandmother’s house a few weeks before, and now I had come to take them home.  Love swelled within my heart as I reached down to pick her up, as little arms wrapped around my neck, and the little head lay down on my shoulder. All the troubles and trials of the day were pushed aside for a little while. I felt happy, warm and strangely enough, contented for the moment. I loved her even when she threw food on the floor, or even when she threw a tantrum if she did not get her way.

Now I can better understand the kind of love that God has for us. God loves me regardless of what I do or say.  He does not turn HIS love on when I am good; and turn it off when I am bad. God loves me always. “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…..” (John 3:16)

God is faithful (I Corinthians 1:9). He will never change. He will remain constant in His love for me. Other things in my life will come and go. Changes will take place, but my God will not change. After writing about how even the earth and the heavens will change, the Psalmist writes about God, “But you remain the same, and your years will never end.” (Psalms 102:27)

God is always ready to hear my prayer. He is never too busy, or too far away to listen to what I have to say. I can “come boldly unto the throne of grace….” of my God, the Father and Creator, “and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 5:16)

God is compassionate.  He knows when I hurt… He knows when tears roll down my cheeks. He knows when I need to pray and the words are not there. “He hears the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds (Psalms 147:3) “Because He is good. Because His mercy endures forever.” (Psalms 118:1)

God is LOVE: full of love. My God is holy, good, just, impartial, and patient. He is king and judge over His kingdom. (Hebrews 10:30) To truly know WHO my God is and what He is like, I must know love. Without love, it is impossible to know God because “,,,,God is love…” (I John 4:16). If I but open my eyes and look, I can ‘See” that MY GOD IS LOVE.
