Reflection – An Envelope of Desperation
“Oh God, come to our assistance. Lord, make haste to help me.”
Lord, it feels like we are living within a great envelope of desperation. Disease is knocking us off balance. Social unrest reflects the desperation that is so evident around the globe. Hurricanes, typhoons, and cyclones produce untold misery. Wars wreak havoc among peoples who were already living on the edge. Work is hard to come by and all too often pays too little. The pain of dealing with life’s transitions weighs on us.
Lord, hear our prayer for we grow weary of life’s battles. We long for safety and protection. You know, O Lord, of our pain. You know of our desire for calm, predictability, and control of our own destinies.
So, we call out and earnestly ask for the strength, hope, and love that can only come from You, the One who knows us, loves us, sustains us, and brings us hope and joy despite the unfairness, turmoil, and desperation that permeates our days.
And we pray on behalf of others who like so many before them, faithfully seek you in the midst of chaos and crisis. Help NationsUniversity to be an instrument of your presence. Grant the resolve, ability, and strength to those who, like your servants in the past, will continue to bring your message of peace to those who are desperate and disrupted and living within an envelope of desperation.
All this we ask in the name of Jesus, your Son and our Lord.
Amen
