The Gnawing Emptiness

The Gnawing Emptiness

Have you felt the gnawing emptiness, like a parasite, that feeds on your soul? Is it wearing you down little by little? When we were small children, we did not feel a vast emptiness. Even in bad situations, we were hopeful, maybe because our energy level is so high. Maybe it was an attitude of having plenty of time to correct what is wrong. In our teen years, the emptiness begins to creep upon us, gnawing its way in.

One day, we drag ourselves to the mirror, and we feel the weight of this invisible burden bearing down upon us. Our strength is sapped, and we are unable to resist its crushing oppression. Our optimism has vanished, and our days, our reality, the future, all appear bleak and all that is left is the gnawing emptiness.

Perhaps you have seen this in a relative, or a close friend? You witnessed the desperation in their eyes as they silently contemplate ending it all rather than facing the long, slow demise. Thankfully, there is a way out, a rescue from the gnawing emptiness. He is a sovereign, He is mighty, and yet, He is so personable, so humble, that the more you get to know Him, the more you will love Him. His name is Jesus and He will fill that emptiness when nothing else can.

Prayer: Lord fill me with your goodness. Drive away the dark thoughts and fill me with your light. Fill the emptiness in me with Your great love. May I find my satisfaction in You.

Some knowledge is too heavy…you cannot bear it…your Father will carry it until you are able.Corrie Ten Boom

Matthew 11:29 (NLT)

Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
