Unbiblical Statements People Believe – God Won’t Give You More Than You Can Handle – Part 5

God Won’t Give You More Than You Can Handle

Human life is everywhere a state in which much is to be endured and little to be enjoyed.” —Dr. Samuel Johnson

Who hasn’t felt the pressures of life? We all have, and this is just another meaningless platitude. If you just do a cursory read of the Bible, you will see all kinds of men and women from all walks of life being given more than they can handle. All of life is more than we can handle.

King David committed adultery and then covered it up with murder. He turned to God and repented. The King of Persia threw Daniel into a lion’s den for not worshipping him, Elijah was in so much fear he asked God to kill him, Jesus was under so much stress he sweated great drops of sweat and blood. All turned to God in prayer, and God sustained them all.

God says: Isaiah 41:10, Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Things to Think About

Philippians 4:6-8, Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

There it is, think about these things, God wants us to turn to Him. Set your hearts and your minds on Jesus, not on your troubles, not on yourself, not even on friends and family. Like Peter walking on the water, when you take your eyes off Jesus, you start to sink.

Rest in Him

The point of living in a fallen world is not for us to try hard to carry our heavy burden. So let us stop saying that God won’t give you more than you can handle. Rather, let us say that God helps us handle what we are given. God wants us to surrender everything to Him; that’s what faith is all about. Everything is more than you or I can handle, but not more than Jesus can handle when we rest in him.
